All Party Group Visits Site of London 2012 Olympics
On the 16 July the All Party Parliamentary Group on Infrastructure made a visit to the site of the 2012 Olympics, to give parliamentarians a first hand view of the impact this project will have on the city of London.
The 2012 Olympics represents a key opportunity to provide a long lasting legacy for London and the wider United Kingdom through the delivery of major new infrastructure projects which will form part of the Olympic legacy.
The trip included a tour of the major elements of the Stratford site including the Olympic Stadium, Olympic Village and Aquatic Centre. ODA Director of Construction Howard Shiplee led the visit, which included ICE President Jean Venables and ICE London Director Miranda Housden.
The new centre will help Londoners develop the right skills to continue to help deliver the venues and infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and other large-scale projects taking place across the region, such as Stratford City and Crossrail.
Rt Hon Nick Raynsford MP said “London 2012 will leave a lasting regeneration legacy for London and I have been encouraged today to see the progress currently underway across the Olympic Park.
"I was particularly interested in seeing first hand the huge range of construction activities currently underway to ensure the success of London 2012. I was also impressed by the commitment to deliver a really significant skills legacy for the UK’s civil engineering and construction industries.”
